Turin and the Savoy residences
Discover Turin, the ancient capital of Savoy dukes and first capital of the Italian realm, with its monumental and gorgeous historic center – mostly designed by architects Juvarra and Guarini – and its beautiful Savoy residences in its surroundings, such as the Palazzina di Stupinigi , Racconigi Royal Castle, the Ducal Castle of Agliè, the Reggia di Venaria and the Castle of Rivoli, home to an important museum of contemporary art.
Wednesday, June 29
Departure by bus from Milan. Arrival in Turin and visit to the Palazzo Reale, which includes the Representative Apartment of Carlo Alberto, the Royal Armory and the Savoy Gallery. Part of the UNESCO heritage, Palazzo Reale reflect the Savoy history: its dimensions have grown together with the Savoy power and each architect that worked on it put his art at the service of the reigning king, enriching the original structure of the palace, since 1584 (when Carlo Emanuele I appointed the architect Ascanio Vittozzi for the construction of a new royal residence). Especially notable is Filippo Juvarra´s contribution on XVIII cent: the inventive and daring Scala delle Forbici and the Chinese Cabinet.

Officially opened on 2 October 1832, the Savoy Gallery was established by Carlo Alberto in order to offer the most relevant part of the Savoy collection to “the public enjoyment”: masterpieces from the Italian Renaissance period (Andrea Mantegna, Simone di Paolo Veronese, Antonio e Piero del Pollaiolo), from seventeenth and eighteenth centuries (Orazio Gentileschi, Guericino, Tintoretto) and paintings from the Flemish and Dutch school (Jan van Eyck, Hans Memling, Paul Rubens e Anton van Dyck).
In the afternoon we will visit the Egyptian Museum, renewed in 2015 under Christian Greco´s project. The museum collection is distributed on 10 thousands square meters and four levels connected with an escalator system – created by Dante Ferretti – that recreates the ideal ascending path of the Nile. A chronological itinerary that runs from 4.000 B.C. to 700 A.D. that includes virtual reconstructions of some archeological sites.
A visit to the Fondazione Accorsi-Ometto will follow. The foundation hosts the Museum of Decorative Arts, born to preserve the outstanding collection of antique dealer Pietro Accorsi and hosting hundreds of objects – furniture, carpets, tapestries, paintings, glass, ceramic, porcelain, silverware – carefully selected, acquired on the antiques market, and put in relation one to each other in order to recreate the atmosphere of the eighteenth century. Accommodation in 4* Hotel NH Carlina or similar hotel. Dinner and overnight included.
