Slovenia – Sečovlje Salt Pans – First World War in Posočje and Gorenjska – UNESCO Karst Heritage

At 08.00 departure by bus from Milan to Piran

Milan – Piran – Sečovlje – Nova Gorica 

In the morning departure from Milan and drive across Po plain pass Padova and Venice towards Slovenia. After crossing the national border our first stop will be PIRAN, the most beautiful coastal town influented by Venetian art. We will take a walk trough the old town from three sides surrounded by the sea. We will discover picturesque tangle of narrow streets and numerous cultural and historical monuments among which the most outstanding two are Tartini Square and Church of St. George. The plateau around the church offers a beautiful view of Bay of Trieste and Bay of Piran. Then we will visit the Salt pans and the Salt museum in SEČOVLJE where we will enjoy the unique environment and learn about the traditional production of salt. After the visits drive to Nova Gorica. Accommodation at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Friday, July 1

Kobarid – Mojstrana – Vršič – Trenta 

After breakfast we will drive through the valley of Soča, the most beautiful Slovenian river, and arrive in Kobarid – central area of the First World War in Slovenia. We will begin our tour of SOŠKA FRONTA in Museum of World War I in Kobarid. Afterwards we will make a stop in KLUŽE where stands one of the most important and well-preserved fortifications from this period. Furthermore we will continue our tour over the pass Predel and through Kranjska gora – venue of recent alpine skiing world cup. Near by is also new world-famous ski jumping venue – Planica. Our next stop will be in the heart of the Julian Alps – MOJSTRANA. In traditional rural environment we will see Slovenian Alpine Museum – one of the most modern Slovenian museums. Then we will return towards Nova Gorica over the pass VRŠIČ (1611 m altitude). We will drive on the road wich was built by Russian soldiers during te World War I. In their memory there stands a monument RUSSIAN CHAPEL, definitely worth a stop. On our way back we will have a spestacular view on Slovenian Alps and the central part of Triglav National Park – TRENTA VALLEY. Return in our hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Saturday, July 2

Škocjanske jame (Škocjan Caves) – Lipica – Milan 

After breakfast we will drive to Kras (Karst) – a world famous landscape with numerous subterranean caves. We will visit Škocjanske jame – ŠKOCJAN caves under UNESCO natural heritage. After return from underworld of stalactites and lakes we will visit nearby LIPICA – a world known Stud Farm of breeding the famous white Lipizzaner beauties. Afterwards we will drive across the border towards Milan, where we will arrive in the late evening.
