MILAN-ASTI AND MONFERRATO-ALBA-SURROUNDINGS
In the morning, departure by private bus from Milan.
Arrival in Asti Town, in the plain of the Tanaro River, 150 km far from Milan. Asti is deemed to be the modern capital of “Monferrato”, one of the most important wine districts of Italy. It also has a strong literary tradition, including the 18th century Asti-born poet and dramatist Vittorio Alfieri and the Alessandrian Umberto Eco. The Monferrato is cut in two by the river Tanaro. The northern part (the Basso Monferrato, “Low Montferrat”), which lies between that river and the Po, is an area of rolling hills and plains. The southern part (the Alto Monferrato, “High Montferrat”) rises from the banks of the Tanaro into the mountains of the Apennines and the water divide between Piedmont and Liguria.
On 22 June 2014, Montferrat was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

“Langhe” is the hilly area between Asti and Cuneo, bounded by Tanaro, Belbo, Bormida Millesimo and Bormida di Spigno rivers. Roero takes its name from the homonymous family, who dominated this territory since the Middle Ages and for centuries. This area is located on the left bank of the river Tanaro and the territory, as well as Langhe in 2014, was declared a “World Heritage” by UNESCO, because of its vineyards and the gentle hills that characterize the landscape.
The most important town is Alba, famous to be also an important confectionery center and considered the “Capital of the Langhe”. Stroll in the city center, characterized by red brick and yellow tuff, among Middle Ages and Baroque age buildings.
Visit to a wine cellar with a stroll in the wineyard.

Work started in 1729 and was completed so quickly that just two years later, the Royal Lodge held its first hunt. The ingenious design by Juvarra was based on a star shape. Since XV Century Turin has been the seat of the Savoy Dynasty, the “Italian Royal Family”.
For this reason, in 1861 Turin became the first Capital of Unified Italy and, nowadays, you can admire wonderful churches, aristocratic palaces, large squares, and straight avenues lined with trees.
The Residences of the Royal House of Savoy have been named by UNESCO “World Human Patronage” in 1997. These palaces rapresent a comprehensive overview of European monumental architecture in the XVII and XVIII Centuries, using style, dimensions, and space to illustrate in an exceptional way the prevailing doctrine of absolute monarchy in material terms.
