Lunigiana, in Italy’s north west, is a particularly scenic territory bordered by the Liguria’s Riviera, the Apuan Alps and the Apennine National Park that leads into Tuscany and Emilia. With over one hundred castles and prehistoric sites, it has lots to offers visitors. 

Participants will be guided through Lunigiana on a two-day trip that starts from Pontremoli, with its Piagnaro Castle and Menhir Statue Museum, continues to Castiglione del Terziere and the Firmafede Fortress in Sarzana – two masterpieces of Renaissance architecture – then takes in the quaint hamlets that dot the Ligurian coast before ending with a visit to the lunar landscape of Carrara’s marble quarries.

Thursday, July 10

Departure by bus from Milan is set for 08:30.

Morning: Visit to the ancient town of Pontremoli and the Menhir Statue Museum with English-speaking guide

Lunch: at a restaurant serving traditional dishes, in the town or its environs. 

Accommodation in hotel or farmhouse 

Afternoon: Visit of the Lunigiana Castles by bus with English-speaking guide

Dinner: in a traditional farmhouse

Overnight in hotel.

Friday, July 11

After breakfast transfer to Carrara for a tour in off road 4×4 trip in the stunning scenary of the Carrara marble basins, sampling local food , the famous “Lardo di Colonnata”.

Afternoon: Transfer to the Gulf of Poets to visit the coastal settlements of Lerici and Tellaro (ranked among the 100 most scenic villages in Italy). Relax in the sea air!

Evening: Transfer to Sarzana for visit to the Firmafede Fortress and the Lunigiana Fortress Museum 

Dinner in Sarzana not included.

Saturday, July 12

After breakfast Transfer by bus to the little village of Fosdinovo and visit to the Malaspina castle.

 

Wine and food tasting in cellar and visit of the Wine museum.

Return to Milan in the afternoon
