Historical gardens and lakes tour

1st day: 10 July 2016, Sunday    

MILAN-MAGGIORE LAKE

In the morning, departure by private bus from Milan. 

Arrival to the Arona town (100 km far from Milan), famous for the high Statue of “San Carlone” and meeting with the English Speaking Guide.

Visit of Villa Taranto Gardens, one of the most important botanical gardens in Europe, with an explosion of flowers, colours and fragrances, and a vast number of plant varieties and rare botanical species from all over the world.

Free time for lunch.

In the afternoon, by private motorboat, guided visit of the “Isola Bella”, the most important island of the lake with stunning botanic gardens, projected by the architect Giovanni Angelo Crivelliin the 17th Century.

Guided visit to the Baroque Palace, sumptuously furnished. The underground rooms are characterised according to the trends of the times with artificial grottos whose shell-encrusted walls are decorated with nymphs and black marble. 

Return by private motorboat admiring the other pitoreque islands and arrival on the mainland.

Departure by bus and arrival in three stars hotel in Lake Maggiore Area.

Dinner and overnight.

2nd day: 11 July 2016, Monday          

MAGGIORE LAKE-ORTA LAKE-OROPA-BIELLA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Meeting with the English Speaking guide and departure to discover the “Vergante Area”, a wide strip of land between the lakes Maggiore and Orta. In this area stands out, with its almost 1500 meters high, the Mottarone famous tourist resort and an important station for winter sports.

Time at disposal for lunch.

Visit of the botanical garden Alpinia, the second-largest alpine botanical garden in Italy: this garden was created in 1934 by Igino Ambrosini, who also founded the Museum of the Umbrella in Gignese, just 3 km away, and Giuseppe Rossi, along with other friends. There are over 800 botanical species in the garden that come from the alpine and subalpine plain of the Italian Alps and also from abroad. There are also species from Caucasus, China and Japan. 

Having left the guide, the tour continues to Oropa, to visit the most important and largest sanctuary dedicated to the Virgin Mary to be found in the Alps. It is located in a unique, natural and unspoilt setting at 1200 mt. a.m.s.l.

The Sacro Monte di Oropa (literally ‘Sacred Mount of Oropa’) is one of the nine “Sacri Monti” of Piedmont and Lombardy and is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Meeting with a guide and visit to the complex.

Arrival in the town of Biella, dinner at restaurant and overnight in 3 stars hotel.

3rd day, 12 July 2016, Tuesday        

BIELLA -BURCINA-AGLIE’-TURIN

Breakfast at the hotel.

Meeting with the English Speaking guide and departure to discover Biella, the capital of the province of the same name, located about 80 kilometres northeast of Turin and about 80 kilometres west-northwest of Milan.

Arrive to the top of the city by funicolar. Visit of the centre and entrance to a private manor house located in the the medieval quarter of Biella. The mansion is a living museum that has passed untouched through eight centuries. Here, the period furniture, the paintings, the household treasures and the archives narrate not only the private story of the family but they also echo the history of arts and society along the different ages. The octagonal Tower dominates the garden, which opens towards Biella with a terrace and a Nymphaeum.

The tour continues to the Burcina Park, placed on the “Brik Burcina” of the same name, which is a soft hill very near to the pre-Alps of Biella. Its origins date back to the first half of the XIX century, when Giovanni Piacenza (1811-1883) bought some lands in the lower part of the Southern and Western hillsides in order to plant redwoods trees (on the lake shores), cedars of the Atlas (towards the mountains), strobus pines and many others. Having left the guide, time at disposal for lunch. 

Having left the guide,.the tour continues to Agliè village, 40 km far from Biella and 40 km far from Turin.

Meeting with the English Speaking guide and entrance to the Agliè Castle. Visit of the magnificent compound, one of the most beautiful and well preserved of whole Piedmont, with its intact furniture and rooms. Stroll in the park and its Italian and English style gardens (if opened), organised in terraces by the Prussian Architect Xavier Kurten.  In the 18th century the residence was expanded and gained beautiful fontain “Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi” (it symbolizes 4 rivers in Canavese region: Dora, Orco, Malone and Tritoni), the masterpiece of brothers Filippi and Ignazio Collino.

Arrival in Turin, dinner at restaurant and overnight in 3 stars hotel.

4th day, 13 July, Wednesday  

TURIN-RACCONIGI-PINERO AREA-TURIN

Breakfast at the hotel. Meeting with the English Speaking guide and transfer by private bus to Racconigi Castle, which dates back to 12th century, surrounded by a wide park. Visit of the apartments and of the “Margherie” built up at the edge of the broad park.

The Great architect Le Notre designed Versailles park and projected its famous fountains. In 1681 after completed Chantilly and Bercy parks, Le Notre was appointed by Emanuele Filberto of Savoy Carignano as architect to replant the park of Racconigi Castle together with the architect Guarino Guarini. 

In 1815 the famous Prussian landscape gardener, Xavier Kurten planned the park according the English style, and was appointed director of the Royal Park of Racconigi. 

Lunch in restaurant and transfer to a private manor house, built in the 19th century, with elegant interiors, and a beautiful park, conceived by the royal architect Giacomo Pregliasco. 

The tour continues in the area of Pinerolo Area (in the Middle Ages, the city of Pinerolo was one of the main crossroads in Italy to visit a private castle, with a park designed by Benedetto Alfieri, first civil architect of the Sardinian Kingdom.

Before arriving to Turin, stop in a private manor house, sourranded by a big park designed by Architect Xavier Kurten.  The park follows the English romantic vision: nature has been “recreated” to enhance the beauty of the natural environment and leave open spaces through the woods, which were planted 180 years ago, so as to enhance the views. 

Arrival in the town. Time available for dinner.  Overnight in the hotel 

5th day, 14 July,    Thursday

TURIN-MILAN

Breakfast in the hotel. 

Meeting with English speaking guide and walking tour of the city centre, visiting also the Royal Palace, the most important  residence of the Savoy Family and the gardens recently restored. 

The Royal Palace is now included in the “Royal Pole” (five different museums, all connected: The Royal Palace, the Royal Armoury, the Savoy Gallery, the Museum of Antiquary and the Royal Library).

Since XV Century Turin has been the seat of the Savoy Dynasty, the “Italian Royal Family”.

For this reason, in 1861 Turin became the first Capital of Unified Italy and, nowadays, you can admire wonderful churches, aristocratic palaces, large squares, and straight avenues lined with trees. 

The Residences of the Royal House of Savoy have been named by UNESCO “World Human Patronage” in 1997. These palaces rapresent a comprehensive overview of European monumental architecture in the XVII and XVIII Centuries, using style, dimensions, and space to illustrate in an exceptional way the prevailing doctrine of absolute monarchy in material terms. 

Time at disposal for lunch.

In the afternoon, transfer to Milan, arrival in the evening and end of services.

Cancellation Penalties:

-25% of the total amount for cancellations received up to 40 days before arrival;

– 40% of the total amount for cancellations received up to 30 days before the clients arrival

-50% of the total amount for cancellations received up to 11 days before arrival

-75% of the total amount for cancellations received up to 3 days before arrival;

-100% of the total amount for cancellations received 3 days and less before arrival

 

We would like to remind you that, for the combination, no refund will be provided in the case of late/ early arrival or no show.

 

The day counting before the clients arrival will be made excluding holidays and day before holidays.

The parties, to execute the contract, in addition to what is stated below, agree upon following according to the Italian Civil Code in force and to current legislation, with regard to organisation and intermediation of travel, holidays and “all-inclusive tours” with particular reference to Law Number. 1084/77, ratified by International Convention related to the travel contract (CCV) signed in Brussels on 04/23/1970, and the Decree D. Lgs. 111/95 in fulfilment of EEC Directive n. 314/90 related to “Travel, holidays and all-inclusive tours.”
