TURIN
Breakfast in hotel.
Meeting with the English Speaking guide and departure by private bus to the “Pietro Micca Museum”.
Visit of the site, to discover the role of Turin, during the Spanish Succession War (beginning of eighteenth century) when the town was besieged for four months by the French army. The town was saved by the so-called “war of mines” which was fought across a vast network of tunnels extending under and beyond the external defence works (fourteen kilometres on the whole). At least nine kilometres of galleries have been entirely preserved throughout the centuries and can still be visited today, representing an absolutely unique example worldwide.
Time at disposal for lunch and, in the afternoon, walking guided tour in the city centre, admiring the baroque palaces and churches. Turin was founded by the Ancient Romans in 27 b. C. and it was called “Augusta Taurinorum”. Since XV Century Turin has been the seat of the Savoy Dynasty, the “Italian Royal Family”. For this reason, in 1861 Turin became the first Capital of Unified Italy and, nowadays, you can admire wonderful churches, aristocratic palaces, large squares, and straight avenues lined with trees.
Dinner at restaurant and overnight in the hotel.
