Exclusive skip-the-line Guided Visit: Leonardo da Vinci’s Vineyard
There is a forgotten story that ties Leonardo da Vinci to Milan, the story of a vineyard: the vineyard that Ludovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan, gave to Leonardo in 1498. A vineyard that Leonardo, in the years to come, would defend and keep no matter the cost; the vineyard which has sparked legends involving Leonardo, his works and followers; the vineyard that has been reborn, within the original rows and with the original vine. Discover this vineyard with this exclusive guided visit.
Leonardo da Vinci’s Vineyard
Leonardo da Vinci’s vineyard was in the fields at the bottom of Casa degli Atellani’s current garden, in what was then called the great vineyard of San Vittore. The Atellani were a family of Sforza courtiers to whom Ludovico, years before, had given two houses. Ludovico had two dreams for this corner of the city: to make the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie the Sforza family mausoleum and also, to build a residential neighbourhood where he could establish his most loyal followers, including the Atellani family and, of course, Leonardo himself. Casa degli Atellani is one of the few traces left of this dream.
Leonardo da Vinci’s Vineyard
Throughout the twentieth century the garden was transformed by Piero Portaluppi, a very important Milanese architect, while still retaining its splendor. With the help of the University of Agricultural Sciences in Milan and Confagricoltura, the Portaluppi Foundation and the owners of the house decided to replant Leonardo da Vinci’s vineyard and open Casa degli Atellani and the garden to the public on the occasion of Expo 2015.

Tour of the New Architecture in Milan: Skyscrapers, Urban Developments and Design
Porta Nuova is one of the biggest requalification projects in Europe. Through the restoration of three neighborhoods, Garibaldi, Varesina and Isola, it stretches out for over 290.000 mq. The area blends together the local cultural identity with an european vision. Green parks, squares, bridges and paths ensure the connection between the three sections and provides the perfect setting for a relaxing stroll.
Vertical Forest
We will kick off the visit learning about the history of the first skyscrapers in Milan, in Piazza della Repubblica. The area of the central station, with the Pirelli Skyscrapers and the Galfa Tower, holds interesting architectural stories.
From here, we will be visiting the Porta Nuova station: Diamante Tower with the Diamantini, smaller elements connected to the main building, the Solaria Tower, the Isola neighborhood with the new Palace of the Region, Catella Foundation, the Vertical Wood and Gae Aulenti square with the Unicredit Skyscraper. You will continue along Corso Como, with a stop to 10 Corso Como, High Tech and finishing at Eataly, the popular food store, in the ex Smeraldo Theatre.
