Secret gardens: a hidden Milanese passion
Only if you do not know Milan you think it is a city suffocated by cement that does not take care of its gardens, the truth is they are mostly hidden.
For Milanese people gardens are a private passion, they live inside the “cortile”, the courtyard of the buildings.
Our expert will guide you through the history of gardens: starting from the Orto Botanico di Brera (the city botanical gardens), in the very heart of the city, invisible from outside, created in 1774 under the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria.
You can then take a break from the heat and regenerate yourself under the coolness offered by the plants at the Casa degli Atellani, where you can visit the Vineyard of Leonardo, to understand how gardens were kept and vegetables were grown by noble families right inside the house walls.
Finally visit a privately owned hidden garden, where you can understand how these well-keep secrets are still very much part of the Milanese life.
