Bergamo: all the beauties of the Upper and Lower City
The Bergamask itinerary takes a deeper look at one of the art cities of Lombardy. Explore the historic center of Lower Bergamo, along with the ancient villages of San Antonio and San Leonardo, and the Piacentiniano Center in the morning. Continue on with a visit to the Donizetti Theater, the “Torre Civica”, City Hall, the Cloister of Santa Marta, and the “Palazzo della Provincia and Prefettura”. The morning tour ends with a tour through some of the other fascinating locations of art and history like the Church of San Bartolomeo, the Church of Santo Spirito, and that of San Bernardino. These hold some incredible masterpieces by Lotto and others not to be missed.

Lunch and the rest of the afternoon is dedicated to Upper Bergamo, where you can visit the gorgeous historic center of Upper Bergamo. Stops include the Treasury Museum of the Cathedral, which includes the recent discoveries of the “Antica Fondazione della Cattedrale”. Continue on climbing up to the bell tower, by foot or elevator, in the heart of Upper Bergamo, where you’ll discover incredible 360° views. Move on to the Interactive 16th century Museum in Piazza Vecchia, visiting the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore with the extended opening of the “Tarsie del Lotto”. Finish it all off with a stroll to Porta San Giacomo, and the breathtaking views of the ancient walls.
